Vimeo
Vimeo (██)
Vimeo is a social platform for sharing video. It’s far smaller than YouTube, but
has some advantages in terms of quality and display.
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Connect with community of like-minded artists | Advanced metrics (beyond number of views) and unlimited posting require a plus account ($59\/month). Additional storage requires a Vimeo Pro account, which starts at $170 per year. |
Higher video quality than YouTube | "Related" content may not be related, and may draw viewers to competitors. |
No ads | Videos rank lower in Google searches |
Pro tip: With a plus account, you can set up a "tip jar" for viewer donations.
Audience
Vimeo has just over 280 million users, far fewer than Youtube. Popular
among artists. A Pro membership includes advanced metrics for impact measurement.
Privacy
Under Vimeo's Settings, there is a subsection entitled "Upload defaults" within "Videos". Here, there are a bunch of privacy settings, including who can watch your videos, who can comment on them, and how your videos can be embedded elsewhere (if at all). There is also an option here to default your Creative Commons License.
When uploading a video, however, users are presented with a choice to override their default settings in terms of who can see the video.
Currently, hiding videos in Vimeo or making them only available to people with a link is a paid/premium feature.
Security
Supports Two-Factor Authentication: No
